James A. Johnson 17 April 1992 (some notes from Billy Graham) Why Jesus Suffered 1. "God did not exclude Himself from human suffering." He shared in our sufferings. He died so we could relate to Him. He understands, and in what He did, He gave us confidence in His understanding. 2. Graham notes the life-giving property of blood. 3. The suffering of sins was Jesus' pain. "He was content to be `numbered with the transgressors'" so that we might be saved. "For the WAGES of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). Jesus paid those WAGES for us. 4. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice "For you. For me. That we might have life eternal and that we might have His peace in the midst of storms." 5. Note this saying: "Only the wounded physician can heal." 6. What Jesus did for us was an act of ultimate sacrifice and love. 7. Actions speak a little louder than words. (Note number 6). 8. Jesus died to stop the fear of death--liberation. 9. Jesus died to fulfill the prophecies and the laws. 10. ALL of these REASONS are all rooted in one reason.... THE LOVE OF GOD. HE IS RISEN!
