Easter Again

March 29, 2008 - Opening Statements for the Covenant Presbyterian (PCA) Men's Retreat

Good morning.

It's just after 0800 hours and men have joined together from around the area. And you are part of the largest battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind, That word should have new meaning for all of us today."*

We cannot be consumed by our different talents, pasts, and failures any longer. We will be united in putting our unique experiences and gifts together in Christ.

Last week, on Easter, we celebrated both our Independence from sin and our Dependence on Christ. And once again, we will be fighting for these . . . not necessarily a physical battle, but definitely a spiritual one.

We are fighting against the powers of this present darkness. And we will win! One has gone before us and the battle belongs to Him.

"May this day be a day to be remembered where we declared in one voice: We will not go quietly into the night!"* The Light shines in the darkness, but the darkness doesn't understand It! Who is this King of Glory? The LORD mighty in battle - the Lord Jesus Christ. By His power, we demolish strongholds and with justice, He judges and makes war! Today, we again celebrate Easter - our Independence from sin and our Dependence on Christ - our Captain, our General, our Merciful Risen Lord - as we run to the battle.
