1. Is Jesus the only way to God (Is there more than one way to God)? John 14:6; I Timothy 2:5; John 3:16-18 (Note that if Jesus is God, which is addressed here later, then it does not make sense that there is another way to God besides Jesus). 2. What about the "African jungle native" who has never heard the gospel? (Divine Justice vs. our distorted view. It is God's business to make final judgement, though no man is without excuse). God is the Judge, and God is perfectly just. We cannot even begin to know true justice. Romans 1:19-20; This pushes the issue of Christians to live the life and share the truth with the world as called in Matthew 28:18-20. Christianity is not a "private" thing. An essential part of Christianity is relationships with others. Not all Christians have the gift of evangelism, but all Christians do have gifts to which they are called by God to use to His glory and in reaching the lost for Him. 3. Can "good" people who don't necessarily believe the Bible go to Heaven? (Salvation by works?) Look at the definition of grace and how many times it is used in the New Testament. Grace is a gift of unmerited favor. Hence, grace is not earned, but given. Works are good, but salvation only by works would undermine grace and the New Testament, thus making Jesus' dying on the cross pointless. If we can be saved by our own works, then we don't need Jesus because if one can be saved by his or her own power, then why would such a person need the power of Christ. Read the following verses on this: Ephesians 2:8-9; James 2:10-26. We are saved by faith, but faith's fruit is works. John 1:16-17; Romans 4-5. Also note that none are good as mentioned in Romans 3:23 and Psalm 53:3. 4. Can we forfeit our salvation after receiving it? If one is truly and sincerely saved, then he is forever saved. Some people have an emotional experience and claim salvation or act the part of think just having head knowledge is salvation. Rejecting Jesus Christ (blasphemy of the Holy Spirit or saying Jesus is not who He is) is mentioned in Mark 3:29 as the unforgiveable sin. This does not mean that if you were an atheist 2 years ago and you now know Christ that you are condemned. This sin is if you leave this earth rejecting Christ and never confessing Him as Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9). 5. Does hell exist? Jesus describes a place with weeping and gnashing of teeth many times and refers to Hades (The Greek word for hell). 6. Is Jesus God? John 10:30; John 17;21; Colossians 1:12-22; John 1:1-18; Philippians 2:5-11. *** NOTE: I use the Bible as my authority to answer these questions. I take on faith that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God which He wrote through chosen people whom would be His "pen." I believe that if I do not take the Bible as the Word of God, then it undermines the support for what I believe. Christians who are serious about their faith should look to the Bible as truth. Jesus being the only way to God and the Bible being our authoritative revelation from God are two things that distinguish Christian beliefs from others. Read II Timothy 3:16. FINALLY, Most importantly, realize that Jesus is the only way to God. Read your Bible; it answers a lot of questions. Read the gospel of John, and then for some quick reading, read Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians. Wrestle with your questions and thoughts; that is how you learn and grow. May this answer questions for you, the reader, and may you be encouraged by this document. Love in Christ, James A. Johnson
