Man's Spiritual State and the Need for Prayer If at one point you have felt discourged talking to people who have a hard time accepting the ideals of Christianity, which I know you have, take heart because you and I are called to SHARE the gospel. That is, as mere mortals, where our job stops. We can't convert, only God can convert. That is why when we talk to someone about Jesus Christ they tend to get huffy, a bit defensive, because no one wants to hear that living a good life and as a result good deeds wont get you into heaven. That idea just repulses most non-believers. If you shared with someone and they accepted Christ right away the Spirit of God was with him and understood the the things of God. This however is not true of some people. Man can sit in the midst in awesome preaching, sing the most inspirational song, and yet look around and still not see the cross of Christ because he is sitting on it. Here are some illustrations that you might be familiar with. These might give you a clue in what is trying to be said here. 1.|-------------------| Key = += Christ | o | s= self | o s+ o | o= issues in ones life | o | |-------------------- The Spiritual Man as you can see has Jesus at the center of his life, and every other concern revolving around the Lord. Notice how neat and organized his life is. 2. --------------------| | o 0| | | | + s | | 0 O| --------------------- The Carnal man or Backslider has accepted Christ, but has chosen to go his own way leaving the concerns of the life in utter disaray. 3. _____________________ | o O | | O s | + | O o | |___________________| The Unspiritual man has not accepted Christ nor does he feel like he needs to. He thinks he is perfectly happy without Jesus as his Lord and savior. Why should he change when he has never known a father's love. Notice that Christ is on the outside of his life. This guy cannot see any farther than reality will let him because the Spirit of God is FOREIGN to him. It is not that he chooses to be stubborn or doesn't want to listen to the gospel. It's just that he cannot understand. Let's say some one spoke a language that you did not know. Since you do not know the language, you are not able to comprehend. The same goes with unspiritual man! As Christians our most life touching evangelism comes through prayer! We should still witness to others by our life and the words God gives to us to speak, but unless the life source of your ministry is not based on prayer the whole kit and kaboodle is most assuredly worthless. Please think about the lost persons in your life and keep in mind why they may not understand what you're talking about when you share with them, but most importantly PRAY for them. Here are some scripture references on The spirit or the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:1-4 Luke 24:45 Gal 2:20 with Acts 11:2 Prayer There are a bunch of good ones on prayer but I like this one best: Ephesians 6:18 Because he lives +om
