NOTE: This is a written version of a message I delivered on June 3, 2025.
Recently, I had the task of changing the color of some text on a website. The reason? The text needed to be readable to those who have difficulties with color contrasts. I had to make a change. And the status quo of the website made it difficult for some to read the text and get the message. The purpose of the website is to get the message out to as many people as possible. Why have a website if it doesn't convey a message?
You have a life and your life is conveying a message. Is it conveying the message of Christ? Matthew 5:16 (NASB) says, "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."
The changing of text color for the sake of the message made me think about sharing the Truth with others. Sometimes, my status quo makes it difficult to get the message out. Sometimes, my fear or my attitude or my not grasping the awesomeness of the Gospel hinders my getting the message out. I have to make a change. I cannot do it in my own strength. I need the Holy Spirit to work in me. And you, do, too.
Now, I am not promoting pizzazz and theatrics to get the message across. Those types of things do not point to God, but to man. There are ways to reach others "where they are at," but if they are pointing to the showmanship of man at the expense of the Gospel, then those are not the ways to do it. I am not promoting watering down or getting overtly seeker-friendly with the message, either. If I do these types of things, then the message gets lost. Just tell them the simple Truth of the Gospel, Who Jesus is, what He has done, and what He is doing in your life. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 (NASB) the following:
But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.
And Galatians 1:8 (NASB) emphasizes this more strongly: "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!"
Now, God can use you in spite of you to get His message out, but we don't need to voluntarily detract or distract from the message (and that's what we do if we do it in our own strength). Maybe you're not the best communicator, but God can still use you. Make a change. Dare to extend a greeting and see where it goes. After all, in Romans 10:14 (NASB), the Scripture says, "How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?"
Maybe you don't get through the 4 Spiritual Laws with a person, but you can tell them Jesus loves them. You can mention God. You can ask about church. Or you can build relationship with a neighbor. Relationships take time. You can start the conversation. And Lord-willing, the opportunity will occur for you to share the Truth of Christ with them. If they aren't seeing the message (or hearing it) in your life, make a change.
